As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will utilize the latest technology to provide vision care by providing various tests and procedures to patients. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM—4:30PM or 8:00AM – 5:00pm.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Perform clinical and technical ophthalmic duties and basic patient care as directed by a physician or supervisor.  

• Receive and prepare patients for examination and treatment under the direction of a supervisor or physician.  

• Perform routine screening tests and document patient information in the patient medical record.  

• Stock and maintain exam rooms with equipment and supplies.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• High School Diploma or GED 

• Successful completion of the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant written exam 

• Recent graduate of an Ophthalmic Technology Program (not yet COT certified) 

• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) 

• One year of experience providing direct patient care under the supervision of an Ophthalmologist
