Position Title: Associate Director of the Smith Center.
Department: Smith Center for Global Engagement.
Classification: Exempt.
FTE: 1.0.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Hybrid Occasional evenings and weekends. Requires carrying on-call mobile phone approximately 25 weeks/year to respond to emergencies as needed. Travel up to 2% of the work schedule, which includes local (Twin Cities Metro Area), national and international travel. Overnight trips average 1-2 trips per year.
Salary Range: $62,000 - $70,000.
Essential Job Duties:
- Oversee semester/year program development, budgeting, and administration.
- Collaborate annually with faculty leaders to develop St. Olaf’s flagship semester-length study abroad programs.
- Develop, manage, and reconcile program budgets for faculty-led semester programs.
- Update all St. Olaf approved semester/year program budgets and oversee payments to partner institutions.
- Research semester abroad/away programs that meet departmental needs, present to departments and submit for review by the curriculum committee.
- Research and develop partnerships with providers to design and deliver faculty-led semester courses and logistics.
- Support director with emergency and crisis management protocols.
- Advising students in collaboration with Advising Coordinator.
- Advise prospective, current and returned students and their parents about programs, budgets and individual concerns.
- Present on the Smith Center and study abroad/away for St. Olaf Admission Days, Prospective Students and other campus-wide events.
- Manage a portfolio of January term programs.
- Develop, manage, and reconcile program budgets.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and on-site partners to establish meaningful, location-specific learning opportunities.
- Maintain study abroad database page, enrollments, and required paperwork.
- Arrange logistics (lodging, tickets, transportation, etc.) for programs.
- Contribute to design of development opportunities and training.
- Design and deliver an array of faculty development opportunities, pedagogical resources, intercultural learning, and course development resources related to study abroad/away.
- Collaborate with campus partners to develop programming on potential career, vocation, intercultural, and/or professional connections to study abroad/away.
- Design and deliver orientations and trainings for students.
- Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
- Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- Reports to the Director, Smith Center for Global Engagement.
- This position does not supervise staff or students.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience: 5 + years program and financial management experience in International education in higher education, familiarity with intercultural communication frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s Degree.
- Experience: Advanced level program development experience working with faculty and/or international education providers and institutions; intermediate level financial management experience (creating and reconciling budgets in Excel, payments to vendors); 2 + years supervisory/oversight experience; teaching experience; proven experience with international health and safety risk mitigation and crisis management.
