POSITION TITLE: Director of Philanthropy
CORPS/DEPARTMENT: DHQ/Community Relations & Development
SUPERVISOR: Divisional Executive Director of Development (DEDD)
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time/40 hours per week; Exempt

SCOPE OF POSITION: Manage and engage with corporate and private foundation donors, maintain a caseload of individual mid-level/major gift donors, and establish fundraising goals for same. Prepare grant proposals for corporate and private foundations in cooperation with Corps Officers and program directors. Work with Corps Officers and program directors to determine needs and identify resources for the same. Assist with special event fundraising as requested by DEDD. Ensure that donor records are accurate and well maintained in CRM database. Implement Corporate Assistance Program. Produce monthly reports for DEDD and THQ related to donor activity.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business, psychology, marketing, or similar field preferred. May substitute five year’s relevant experience for the education requirement.
- Understanding of or experience working in a non-profit environment.
- Effective written and storytelling/communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal/relationship development skills.
- Impeccable organizational and project management skills, with a keen attentiveness to detail while meeting multiple deadlines.
- Appreciation for and understanding of The Salvation Army’s mission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Individual/Corporate Fundraising:
- Identify, qualify and cultivate personal relationships with a caseload of assigned mid-level/major donors individuals, and businesses/corporations.
- Work diligently to meet territorially approved annual activity metrics, benchmarks, and income production goals and is purposeful about every visit and communication and the desired outcome for each “touch.”
- Establish, manage, and fulfill a caseload communication plan, including individual fundraising goals and personalized strategies to effectively steward, cultivate, and solicit gifts from donors each fiscal year, with an emphasis on gifts of $1,000 and higher.
- Design and implement a corporate assistance program in cooperation with DEDD.
- Hold a minimum of four corporate and/or individual major donor events annually.
- Produce monthly reports for DEDD and THQ.
- Identify and secure corporate/individual donations for special events
Grants:
- Prepare grant proposals for corporate and private foundations in cooperation with Corps Officers and program directors.
- Meet with Corps Officers and program directors on a regular basis to understand program/ Corps needs.
- Work with the Finance Department to develop budgets and to confirm need.
- Notify Corps Officers, Finance, and Administration of award notices and grant reporting requirements.
- Work with Corps Officers/program directors/Finance to ensure grant restrictions are adhered to and reports are filed on a timely basis.
- Assist Corps Officers with developing tools to monitor grant compliance and to ensure spend
down of awards based on grant deadlines.
- Ensure The Salvation Army is in good standing with funders.
- Maintain grant records and ensure government grants are entered in BBCRM on a timely basis.
- Maintain tracks and donor history in BBCRM.
- Produce reports on a monthly basis as required by DHQ/THQ.
- Establish goals in cooperation with DEDD and THQ and develop a plan to monitor progress.
General:
- Understand and comply with Salvation Army Policies and Procedures in all aspects of fundraising.
- Ability to work outside regular hours as needed for events and donor meetings.
- Attend Development Department meetings and training courses, as required.
- Provide event support as requested by DEDD.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
