Job Summary
Performs duties to promote patient comfort and provides assistance to the nursing staff as a part of the patient care team. Transports patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher to and from the department and nursing units under the direct supervision of an RN. Functions as a certified Nurse Assistant to promote patient comfort for all classification of patients including adolescents; young adults; middle adults; and the elderly. Assists nursing staff as directed. Conducts EKG and phlebotomy responsibilities when directed.

Indian River Hospital’s 4 South Unit sees a diverse patient population. As PCNA on this team, you will interact directly with patients, Case Managers, Lab Techs, PTs, RNs and other healthcare staff to provide a continuum of care. In this role, you will also have many opportunities for growth, including community outreach projects and professional development courses.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:45pm – 7:15am.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist nursing caregivers, promote patient comfort and carry out nursing orders.
Transport patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher from the department/unit.
Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties.
Attend to patient and family needs and problems.
Assist patients with daily living activities, such as dressing, bathing and maintaining hygiene.
Report pertinent information regarding patient condition to appropriate nursing staff.
Assist patients with tray set up and feeding.
Restock supplies daily and order supplies from Central Supply.
Document care provided in the medical record.
Collect and transport specimens.
Provide RNs/LPNs with accurate and timely intake/output data, vital signs, blood glucose results and other data, note changes from prior measurement and communicate accordingly.
Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so.
