Description

 

ESSESNTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide 11–12 weeks of Infectious Disease (ID) consult service and 1 ID clinic per week.

  • Participate in 12 weeks of critical care service.

  • Serve as Associate Medical Director of the Biocontainment Unit (BCU).

  • Develop, implement, and maintain protocols for the care of patients critically ill with special pathogens.

  • Coordinate clinical operations within the BCU, including identification and recruitment of necessary physician specialists.

  • Collaborate with internal partners (e.g., incident command, infection control) during patient admissions and ongoing BCU operations.

  • Work with external partners (e.g., EMS, public health agencies) to ensure readiness for patient identification, transport, and care.

  • Participate in NETEC workgroups and planning activities related to high-consequence infectious diseases.

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of educational materials and activities to maintain BCU clinical team readiness.

  • Develop and lead training programs for UTMB staff and external healthcare personnel based on subject matter expertise.

  • Engage in research activities that support preparedness and readiness for high-consequence infectious diseases.

  • Develop and contribute to policies and procedures for clinical care in containment settings.

  • Provide consultation and guidance to care teams at other facilities when high-consequence infectious diseases are suspected.

  • Support the ongoing readiness of the BCU through strategic planning and operational oversight.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MD degree or equivalent, Board Certified. Board Certified or Eligible in active pursuit of certification. Therefore, we expect that you will sit for and pass your Endocrinology boards within three years of your hire date.

 

SALARY:

Commensurate with experience.
