Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of post-production processes, digital workflows, and relevant tools, along with strong technical knowledge of media specifications.  The candidate should demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and follow-up skills, as well as a solid grasp of the VOD and EST content distribution landscape. Additionally, the candidate must be proactive, show strong initiative, and feel confident representing the team's technical and workflow requirements in discussions with internal partners.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages workflows for all content processed internally
  • Responsible for association, verification and mastering (pre-qualification) of deliverables in accordance to priorities detailed by retail operations team.
  • Responsible for the creation of conformed mezzanine and playback assets as needed.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting workflow issues and communicating to the Production Supervisor any issues that may jeopardize on time completion.
  • Communicate to Retail Operations if new source files are needed.
  • Manage source asset archival workflow.
  • Creation of special assets (bundle pre-roll) assets as needed.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in digital media, audio, video, and/or interactive consumer entertainment products, preferably with a background in OTT content platforms
  • Media Asset Management (MAM) tools and workflow experience
  • Mac and PC fluency
  • Strong working knowledge of industry standard formats/codecs for digital media (i.e. H264/5, MP4, etc.) as well as encoding standards relating to sampling rates, frame rates, key frames, and aspect ratios
  • Understanding of web-based closed captioning/subtitle formats
  • Knowledge of web-based file transfer tools: Aspera, Signiant, etc.
  • An understanding of streaming protocols and technologies, media storage protocols, and both cloud and data center-based infrastructures
  • Takes initiative in tasks and projects, ensuring responsibility and ownership for outcomes, and actively addresses and corrects errors
  • Ability to use own judgement and work independently with understanding that the team works varied shift hours 
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently with little or no supervision 

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a media-related field preferred

  • Fully Remote: This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence.
