The Director, Data Strategy supports all aspects of operational data governance, data management, and data infrastructure. This critical strategic role requires an in-depth understanding of rules of proper data handling, modern data infrastructure and modernization of data sourcing.

The Director, Data Strategy supports implementation of government and industry policies for data handling, access and controls. Acquires, validates, stores, protects, and processes required data to ensure the accessibility, reliability, and timeliness of the data for its users. Develops and executes architectures, policies, practices, and procedures that properly manage the full data lifecycle needs of an enterprise. Decisions are typically related to the implementation of new/updated programs or large-scale projects for the function and supporting technical/operational procedures and processes, and implements strategic plans, drives goals and objectives, and improves performance. Provides input into functions strategy.

This individual will report to the Associate Vice President, leading the comprehensive data strategy across the insurance operating environment including management of operational data, data visualization, reporting, data modeling and advanced analytics.  The organization is comprised of 161 talented professionals distributed across the US.  The Director, Data Strategy will be responsible for a team of 30. 

Key areas of focus for this role will include:

• Govern / steward operational data across our Humana’s operating environment.  This strategy is focused on establishing the appropriate infrastructure to ensure compliance with the regulatory environment in the appropriate handling of sensitive data but at the same time allowing for Humana to strategically use data to drive solutions forward.

• Establish a modern cloud data infrastructure replacing on-prem server environment.  Ensure integration of vertical data sources to establish a horizontal view of experience across operational functions.

• Advance the capabilities of the data management function allowing for increased automation and broader data knowledge.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree

• 5+ Years of proven leadership experience

• Strategic, enterprise-wide and integrated thinking; fosters a collaborative culture among cross functional business partners to drive business results

• Demonstrated experience leading large teams, setting vision and goals, aligning talent, developing teams and associates, leading change and leading positively.

• Prior technical leadership experience: demonstrated ability to partner across functions to create and deploy win/win strategies.

• Communication – ability to present at an executive level succinctly

• Independent decision maker

• Innovation — success developing new ideas through collaboration across a matrix organization

• Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

• 7 or more years’ experience in Innovation, strategy, and/or technology leadership

• Master's degree or other graduate degree

• Computer Science, Data Related or Information Technology degree

• Prior experience with Cloud Data Infrastructure

• Certified Data Steward

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay decisions will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

 

$139,500 - $192,000 per year

 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
