Please note: This positions schedule will be Friday and Saturday from 5:30 am to 2:00 pm. This position is not eligible for telework.
Updated as of July 1, 2025: This position is eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities. Employees who are assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents, patients, and/or clients and whose duties are required to be performed on location will receive an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplemental basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.
As a Food Service Worker Lead, you will serve as lead employee in food preparation and cleaning and sanitation duties in assigned area, including directing and checking the work of other Food Service Workers, monitoring for safe food handling practices. Performs a variety of food preparation duties following specific sanitation principles and utilizing safe working methods.

Examples of duties
Some of what you'll do:
- Cleans, peels, and cuts vegetables and fruit.
- Cleans and cuts bread and meat items.
- Weighs' and measures ingredients following recipe directions.
- Cuts and portions finished menu items.
- Accomplishes simple preparation tasks such as makes coffee, toast, and/or hot cereal, boils eggs.
- Assists with grilling of food items such as pancakes, French toast, meats, and sandwiches.
- Prepares nourishment food items to include milkshakes, sandwiches, and snacks.
- Retrieves items from food storage to have adequate supplies for meal preparation.
- Performs general cleaning and sanitation of work areas on a continuous basis.
- Cleans and sanitizes all areas of the food service department – dining room, food preparation areas, food storage areas, servery area, dish room, restrooms and lounge, halls, doors, and walls.
- Portions and dishes-up foods for service in the cafeteria or on the serving line following portions specified on serving guides and recipes.
- Serves hot and cold foods on the cafeteria line or the serving line using therapeutic diet principles and monitors food for safe serving temperatures.
