WSP is currently initiating a search for a Director-level Water / Wastewater Engineer for our Texas Team. This position can be located in any of our Texas locations (Houston, San Antonio, Austin, or Dallas), or other location within the Texas Triangle.  We are looking for an individual who is inspired to grow with us and become an integral part of our team.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of our dynamic and highly talented multi-disciplinary team supporting municipal water / wastewater /Stormwater projects including pump stations, storage and treatment facilities, and collection and conveyance systems.

Your Impact

  • Work closely with our Texas Water/Wastewater Business Line leader to identify and position for projects in our major market areas throughout Texas.
  • Lead and mentor junior staff in developing their skills in planning, design and construction management of piping and pumping projects.  This will include one-on-one interactions with staff, as well as group presentations on technical topics.
  • Represent WSP and our capabilities within local, state, and national professional organizations.
  • Manage projects as assigned, including assisting with project pursuits, development of scope and level of effort, project execution, and project closeout, ensuring compliance with scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for projects within Texas and WSP’s Western Region.
  • Perform and/or provide oversight over technical work including data collection, analysis and evaluations, hydraulic calculations and modeling; engineering reports and supporting calculations and documents, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, site visits, and construction phase services.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering or Agricultural Engineering, with a focus in a water or wastewater related course of study or closely related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer in Texas required.
  • 20+ years of relevant post education experience in water/wastewater conveyance and pump station engineering, demonstrating well developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills leading teams of other engineers and subconsultants in multi-disciplinary projects, 
  • Effective external leadership skills including effectively interacting with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills when interacting with others, with the ability to express intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Highly proficient with water/wastewater conveyance and pumping engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to project work-related issues, including strong knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Ability to work independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
