The Role

Are you interested in a role that is both design oriented but also requires hands-on work?  Come join our VHP team as an Electrical Engineer and be responsible for the design, development, and documentation associated with the project electrical systems.  This includes the control system electronics hardware, electro-mechanical interfaces, compliance to machine specifications, and compliance to applicable electrical codes and standards.  Must be able to solve machine control problems by applying knowledge of electrical engineering principles to accomplish technical assignments.

What You Will Do

  • Works as a collaborative electrical engineering team member applying electrical engineering principles to develop design solutions for electromechanical machine control.
  • Confirms electrical system’s and component’s capabilities and quality by designing testing methods and evaluating properties, including PLC, wire harnesses, analog and digital sensors.
  • Experienced with wire diagrams, controls engineering, control panel design and PLC logic (Siemens TIA Portal is preferred).
  • Prepares engineering reports, studies, calculations and checks drawings for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provides electrical guidance to project designers and technicians in their assignments.
  • Ability to create electrical design drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Interacts with vendors and suppliers to source and select electrical components/subassemblies that comply with machine requirements and specifications.
  • Coordinates details and design criteria with other engineering disciplines on a development project.
  • Exhibits a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, esp. NEC and 61010-1, 60204-1 and NEC for electrical safety compliance, as well as various EMC practices for FCC/CE certification.
  • Helps monitor and advise Engineering Manager of design issues, concerns, and/or required changes, research suitable solutions and estimate cost and corresponding timeframe to complete.
  • Assists with the design, development, testing and reports for Special Sales Orders (SSO) projects and Current Product Support (CPS).

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

What You Need To Be Successful

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of 2 years of related electrical engineering experience is desirable. New graduates will be considered with a minimum of 2 semesters/summers of co-op or internships. 
  • Experience with electrical engineering development tools, such as Excel, Visio/ AutoCad/EPLAN, Altium/OrCad, SPICE

What Will Help You

  • Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs) is desired but not required (AllenBradley, Siemens)
  • Software- AB/Rockwell- Studio 5000, Siemens- TIA Portal, Ladder Logic
  • AutoCAD Electrical- 3D modeling/harness design, schematic & layout drawings- wiring diagrams/panel designs, controls engineering
  • Sensors (digital & analog), procurement & selection of controls equipment
  • Experience with LEAN or Six Sigma methodology is a plus
  • Drawing Control System or Windchill experience helpful
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, electrical troubleshooting, and electrical testing design
  • Understanding of design and application of various sensor technolog
