Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is eligible for hybrid telework workweek
POSITION PURPOSE:
Serves in the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandated teacher role on a Preschool Referral and Assessment Team. Collaborates with case managers, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists in planning for and reporting on eligibility/evaluations. Conducts direct assessments of preschool children as part of the assessment team using formal and/or play-based, arena style assessments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Extensive knowledge of preschool assessment/evaluation and the development of young children;
- Extensive knowledge of eligibility requirements for preschool special education services;
- Extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations and school laws and policies related to special education services;
- Extensive knowledge of Every Child Accountability Tracking System (ECATS);
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills;
- Ability to demonstrate teaming skills;
- Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Ability to handle confidential material;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication
techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from regionally accredited college or university in Special Education or related field;
- Three years of successful pre-kindergarten teaching experience;
- Experience with the referral to placement process in determining eligibility for special education;
- Experience with varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in the area of Birth-Kindergarten;
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Special Education;
- Special Education Certification;
- Bilingual fluency in reading, writing, and communicating in English and Spanish;
- Experience with Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment.
