Job Summary

The MGB Digital Pathology (DGP) initiative is a strategic initiative that requires three essential teams to work closely and collaboratively with each other to be successful: 1) DGP -Pathology Operations Team, 2) DGP -Digital Health Team, and the 3) MGB Pathology interpretation team. The DGP-Pathology Team is responsible for ensuring the operations from specimen procurement to completion of scanning is done efficiently and effectively. They are dependent on the DGP-Digital Health team to help set up the systems for scanning capture and storage.

The Senior Administrative Manager for DGP-Pathology team will provide overall administrative, operational, and financial oversight of the DGP - Pathology team for Mass General Brigham Pathology. As a new department within Mass General Brigham Pathology, DGP – Pathology Operations is expanding its scope of operations across the Enterprise in a strategic and staged approach. The Sr. Administrative Manager will lead and manage the growth of the department in the administrative and business areas while working with clinical and technical resources to establish and execute a strategic plan for the program.

Working with the Clinical Director, the Senior Administrative Manager will lead and consult on projects that support expansion of the Digital Pathology footprint in research, education, and clinical use. This involves the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and processes required to achieve Digital Pathology and Enterprise Pathology objectives.

As the DGP -Pathology Operations staffing and reporting structure continues to evolve and expand, the Senior Administrative Manager will be responsible for aligning existing resources and recruiting additional resources to scale up the Digital Pathology operations program efficiently and effectively. The Manager also works closely with colleagues from across Mass General Brigham to coordinate workflow and technology changes required to advance the practice of Digital Pathology.

Qualifications

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Management:

  • Prepare and manage the revenue and operating expense budgets, working closely with the Clinical Directors, Finance Manager and Analysts, Executive Director, and Vice President of Pathology.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain various policies, procedures, and workflows required to extend Digital Pathology into clinical workflows while maintaining strict compliance with local and national standards.
  • Manage large-scale process improvement or implementation projects at the entity or MGB level requiring a high degree of coordination and independence as assigned by the Clinical Director of Digital Pathology.
  • Analyze, formulate, and implement approved administrative systems to ensure effective management of department operations i.e., information retrieval, productivity, recordkeeping, purchasing and materials management etc. 
  • Communicate project plans, project objectives and milestones, and implementation plans to all stakeholders and other relevant parties.
  • Identify and formulate specific department goals and objectives for approval; monitor progress of related activities to ensure achievement of approved goals. Participate in the formulation of Laboratory policies and procedures related to Digital Pathology. Develop and/or modify existing policies and procedures to recommend to management.

Technology and Equipment Management

  • Works collaboratively with the DGP - Digital Health leadership team supporting the Digital Pathology project and implementation.
  • Oversee and manage the relationships with outside vendors primarily consisting of scanning devices and their peripheral components.
  • Negotiate pricing and contracts for devices and service contracts and take ownership of the procurement process.
  • Maintain proficiency in the AP LIS and Image Management/Viewing Systems to monitor throughput and other analytical data for monitoring scanning operations and quality metrics.
