North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer’s mission. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.

The Physical & Life Sciences Directorate has an opening within the Material Science Division for a Project Manager. The successful candidate will administratively be a part of the Explosives Performance Research and Technologies Group and support institution-wide explosives production activities at both Site 200 and Site 300. The successful candidate will develop a tool to provide enhanced tracking and communication of specific explosives production requests. With minimal supervision, the successful candidate will report to the Deputy Group Leader for the Explosives Performance Research and Technologies Group. The successful candidate will work with a dynamic group of engineers, scientists, technical associates, technicians, and machinists.

Essential Duties

- Create a functioning software interface tool to provide real-time information to customers and managers regarding status of explosives manufacturing jobs.

- Develop a tool to provide enhanced tracking and communication of the stages of production for specific explosives production requests.

- Coordinate with area leads to enable the development of a process that can integrate timely information to enable prioritization discussions across the production space.

- Identify opportunities to reduce or eliminate duplicate efforts and to determine the best locations for easy access and broad visibility for customers and managers.

- Ability to gather data and software interface inputs as well as coordination with area leads and end users to ensure the information is correct, informative, stable, and useful.

- Develop an end product that captures necessary information that enables ongoing tracking of complex projects that is able to inform customers and allow prioritization of projects.

- Enable senior managers to better understand scheduling conflicts so that management can prioritize and deconflict with sufficient details.

- Communicate and foster a healthy working team environment.

- Package a large amount of information into a digestible format while maintaining enough detail for effective assessments to be made regarding prioritization and projected schedule.

- Utilize Microsoft Office and Microsoft Planner to share information and collaborate with the scientific team.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

- Bachelor’s Degree in areas such as business, computer sciences, or another related field.

- Certificate in leadership, coaching, logistics management, or similar field.

- Knowledge of customer service-oriented information sharing tied to schedule and prioritization.

- Experience working with cross functional teams.

- Collaborative leadership skills to launch a new communication system.

- Knowledge of computer software and the understanding of customer service-based information sharing of complex supply chains with several choke points and many shared resources.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

- Familiarity with Microsoft Planner Software and demonstrated ability to help people adopt new processes.

- Familiarity with LLNS policies, procedures and the structure of the Explosives Performance Research and Technologies Group.

- Experience leading a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic environment while working with hazardous materials.
