The Team:
Join the Health Information Services (HIS) team at the Royal Hobart Hospital—a dedicated group responsible for managing clinical documentation, medical transcription, and health records. The team ensures timely and accurate preparation, scanning, and maintenance of digital medical records, supporting clinicians and external providers with essential information for ongoing patient care.
As a Health Information Officer, you play a key role in maintaining the integrity and accessibility of patient records. Your work ensures continuity of care, supports clinical decision-making, and upholds strict confidentiality standards. By accurately managing health data, you help safeguard patient safety and contribute to the smooth operation of Tasmania’s healthcare system.
The Role:
In accordance with Australian Standard (AS) 2828 for health record compilation, hospital protocols and policies and under the direction of the Manager - Health Information Service (HIS) and the Supervisor Medical Records, the Health Information Officer supports the continuation of client/patient care by:
• Providing a health information administration service.
• Performing various clerical and administrative tasks involving organisational skills and attention to detail in support of the effective day to day service delivery required in Health Information Services (HIS).
You will need to:
- Analyse, collate, and prepare all clinical and related internal and external documentation into the approved health record in accordance with the AS 2828 Health Records and Agency policies, protocols, and guidelines.
- Methodically prepare and accurately enter data associated with patient information including reviewing, scanning, uploading, and maintaining clinical documentation, applying quality assurance processes and registering/updating patient demographics into the health information systems in a timely, and confidential manner.
- Undertake administrative and clerical duties including processing confidential patient health records, both digitised and paper based.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term casual, day worker position, working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for a period of twelve months.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $66,049 to $70,993 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
