Job Summary

Investigate, resolve, and document patient concerns and complaints resulting from billing disputes and other escalated patient calls. Educate patients/customers on Insurance coverage and basic eligibility requirements for Government payers and the Marketplace Exchange products as well as topics identified to be the cause of patient concerns. Negotiate fair and reasonable payment plans for account reconciliation. Adheres to the LMC Service Recovery policy and proactively utilizes patient satisfaction and complaint trends to work with PFAC manager to improve processes/facility issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 Years of experience in hospital/physician billing office setting or equivalent.
  • Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
  • Required Certifications/Licensure: None.
  • Required Training: Analytical problem solving skills;  Effective keyboard skills and the ability to navigate within computer/systems  Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Project);  Medical terminology knowledge and working knowledge of basic insurance guidelines;  Familiar with reimbursement methodology, billing and regulatory or compliance issues.

Essential Functions

  • Responds to all assigned written and oral correspondence concerning patient accounts, or refers to appropriate party as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Documents all account related, patient related information within the account notes.
  • Assists patient concerns escalated from Customer Service Department and other staff including walk-ins, telephone calls, etc., to ensure customer satisfaction and prompt resolution of their situation.
  • Maintains statistical data on patient inquiries.
  • Assists and educates patient and with payment options for account resolution. This will include pre-screen for Financial Assistance while also establishing a fair payment plan.
  • Performs follow up with departments or other areas until concern is resolved.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Explains and educates patient on the basic guidelines for Medicare, Medicaid, and Marketplace Exchange products.
  • Provides patient charge estimates upon request.
  • Answers the telephone courteously and takes accurate messages.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency.
  • Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers. Shows courtesy, compassion and respect.
  • Responsible for meeting productivity levels as defined in the critical elements specific to the job.
  • Attends corporate compliance in-services and adheres to overall hospital compliance program.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
