Position Summary: 

The Director, Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting is responsible for overseeing the preparation and submission of all external financial statements and disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, SOX and company accounting and disclosure policies. In addition, this role will be responsible for oversight of statutory reporting in certain international jurisdictions, which may include coordination with local accounting firms. It will be important that all financial reporting is done with high accuracy, timeliness and integrity.

Reporting directly to the VP Finance and Corporate Controller, the Director, Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting requires a seasoned strategic thinker with deep technical expertise in accounting and disclosure rules and regulations. They are heavily involved in M&A activity and will have an internal team supporting them to contribute to their success in each of their key areas. A successful candidate will have strong leadership skills to manage diverse internal and external teams across different jurisdictions.

As a collaborative leader, the Director will proactively partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure organizational success. This will include key internal and external stakeholders such as finance, accounting, legal, investor relations, HR, sales, and operations. Developing and leveraging these relationships will be critical to their success.

This leader is critical to our M&A activities with high involvement in diligence, post-acquisition accounting and integration activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the preparation and filing of all SEC reports (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, earnings releases, etc.), ensuring accuracy and completeness of all financial statements and disclosures.
  • Ensure financial reporting is in compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Serve as a key technical accounting resource and lead resolution of all technical accounting matters. Monitor and interpret new accounting pronouncements; lead implementation efforts as needed. Establish and maintain organizational corporate accounting policies.
  • Advise the CFO, Controller and other stakeholders on technical accounting issues, regulatory developments, and financial disclosure strategy.
  • Participate in due diligence for M&A activity, as needed, and key ownership of aspects of the opening balance sheet for acquired entities. This will include ownership of complex valuations for acquired intangible assets and corresponding controls documentation, amongst other things.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members to help them prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Work closely with the external auditors and facilitate completion of their audit and review of financial statements and technical memoranda.
  • Partner with external international firms for completion of certain statutory financial statements and compliance.
  • Ensure proper consolidation of legal entities in external financial reporting software.
  • Use data to inform all aspects of our decision making, operating processes, and strategic direction.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across the organization. Proactive partner with key stakeholders.
  • Plan, lead and perform additional project-based activities, as needed.

 

 Location:     

 

This role is based in our Minneapolis, MN office and requires onsite presence 2–3 days per week.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of relevant and progressive finance or accounting experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Deep knowledge of SEC Rules and Regulations (S-K and S-X), U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and SOX compliance
