The Project Management Team at Insomniac Games is growing and we are looking for a Senior Manager to join our team.  As the Senior Manager, Project Manager you will be responsible for anticipating production challenges and proactively driving solutions that enable teams to realize ideas without compromising quality or well-being.  The primary focus is to be an effective leader, developer of talent, and developer of the department's craft by succeeding through others. Continuously seeks ways to improve the team's efficiency through direct mentorship, team training, and skill development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Supervises Project Management Managers and direct reports on project management team including but not limited to:
  • Coaching for career growth
  • Problem-solving interpersonal challenges
  • Assessing performance
  • Leads goal-setting strategy for the department to deliver studio results, team objectives, and individual development
  • Facilitates department and individual training with internal and external resources for the continued advancement of the team’s skillset
  • Drives performance assessment, promotion, and compensation for the department in partnership with the Department Head
  • Leads succession planning for the PM group through gap analysis, training and development, and recruiting efforts.
  • Executes on both Department Head and studio strategy, including but not limited to:
  • Creating effective and inclusive job descriptions and career ladders
  • Hiring and retaining staff that get results with a collaborative mentality
  • Ensuring the team meets both generalist and specialist abilities needed in staffing plans
  • Engages in strategy and decision-making as a member of the department’s leadership group and the studio’s management group
  • Meets regularly with team members to offer experienced guidance, provide constructive feedback, facilitate outstanding work, and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Champions a positive and safe work environment, maintaining high morale, leading through open communication, and guiding teammate interactions as expected in the studio’s Code of Conduct
  • Collaborates with Department Head and Project Directors to develop, refine, and document best practices.
  • Advocates for direct reports’ individual well-being as well as coaches Managers and Leads to monitor and promote the well-being of indirect reports.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with peers and other senior leaders to align project and departmental priorities.
  • Advocates for studio cultural values and cultivates an environment of craft excellence, collaboration, and inclusion.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position directly supervises a team of managers on various projects in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees alongside Project Directors; appraising and communicating performance to individuals; addressing complaints and resolving problems as well as coaching, mentoring, and rewarding members of the team.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Eight plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Participation as a Project Manager in the completion of one full game cycle preferred but not required.

Computer Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of bug tracking database(s), Jira or other industry standard is preferred
  • Working knowledge of version control software, Perforce is preferred

Other Skills:

  • Solves problems both independently and collaboratively and adheres to the studio’s expectations of cultural leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must be able to present ideas
