Kleinfelder is looking to add a NBIS Underwater & Topside Inspector to our team in Augusta, ME, Portland, ME or Manchester, NH. 

 

We provide NBIS Inspection (underwater & topside) services to a broad range of State, local and national clients. We are looking for individuals who are interested in joining a dynamic team and building their career in the field of NBIS inspection.   We currently are working on many transportation projects in ME and NH.

 

Qualified candidates should possess strong initiative, be able to perform routine to complex inspections in the field and provide documentation in a clear and consistent manner consistent with the current NBIS standards. Inspections may be general in nature, or limited to a specific area, such as Transportation infrastructure, bridges, and ancillary transportation facilities. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor safety, compliance, productivity, and workload as needed to maximize efficiencies and cost-effectiveness.
  • Facilitate and support the inspection process.
  • Manage the utilization of resources to ensure safety, compliance, and productivity. Monitor workload and re-balance as needed to maximize efficiencies and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with Company standards and procedures Federal, DOT and OSHA; State and Local: codes, regulations, and requirements.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of work including but not limited to reporting, photos, sketches, etc.
  • Participate in all Field Meetings necessary to progress the projects, including pre-inspection meetings, safety meetings, notifications, and all daily tail gate / daily safety brief meetings.

 

Requirements:

  • Personal vehicle and valid driver's license
  • High school diplomas or equivalent, Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred with course work in Civil Engineering, Building Inspection, Home Inspection, Construction Technology, Drafting and Mathematics.  Bachelor's degree preferred BUT experience will be reviewed and accepted for this position.
  • Preferred certifications: PADI, NAUI or equivalent Advance Diver level certification.
  • Preferred but not required: NHI Course 130055 'Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges' or any other NHI or FHWA inspection courses, must be obtained within 1 year of employment. This certification training will be provided by Kleinfelder.
  • Familiarity with Construction standards, Work Methods, Rules for Safe Operation, and associated procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required, in addition to planning, organizing and computer skills.
  • Ability to workdays or nights. Ability to work extended workdays and prolonged work weeks as needed.
  • Candidates must be fluent with Microsoft Office programs. Outlook, Word, and Excel.  

 

Diving Equipment:

  • Standard equipment to be used for underwater activities will include Full face mask (AGA), regulator, with octopus, pressure gauge, dive computer, buoyancy compensator, weight belt, dry suit, hood, gloves, fins, weight belt. 
  • All equipment must have a current inspection where applicable. All equipment shall be serviced and maintained in a readiness status.

 

Diving equipment may be provided from the following sources:

  • Rental - Kleinfelder will pay an approved vendor for equipment rented for underwater activity. The quantity and type of equipment shall be determined by the Dive Team Leader.
  • Private - Kleinfelder will reimburse employees for the use of their complete diving equipment at a rate equal to the current Dive Stipend for each day in water. Reasonable compensation for damage to private equipment will be determined by the Dive Team Leader on a case-by-case basis.
  • Kleinfelder will provide diving equipment based on our needs, operational policies, safety and to reasonably protect the divers from detrimental environments.
