JOB SUMMARY:The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor will be responsible for helping maintain the technical staff, including scheduling, supervising their training, initiating disciplinary actions, and evaluating their performance. Other responsibilities include data collection as necessary for departmental performance improvement activities, help manage the Pyxis dispensing system, help ensure compliance with USP 797, and liaison between the technical and professional staff in the pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor may also function as a staff pharmacy technician as the need arises.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for promoting and supporting the culture and values of UMC
• Supervise the daily workflow and performance of pharmacy technicians
o Compliance with the TSBP Compliance with TJC
o Compliance with USP 797
o Pyxis audits
o Tech check tech audits
o Compliance with safety and security policy and procedures
o Replenishment
o Staff Education
o Blessing of the Hands
o CISM debriefings/defusing's
• Assists with interviews, hiring, discipline, and evaluation of pharmacy technicians
o Provides ongoing feedback, coaching and recognition
o Prepares and conducts performance evaluations
o Participates in the interviewing and hiring process
o Provides progressive disciplinary actions as necessary
• Manage technician scheduling, staffing and on-call coverage
o Cover open shifts
o Follow the FTE budget
o Approve shift changes and switches
o PTO requests
• Conducts regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with direct reports and conducts bi-weekly
technician meetings with their team
• Assists the pharmacy management team (director, assistant director, clinical manager, and
financial manager) in projects, initiatives or process improvements for the pharmacy.
o Assist with policy and procedure updates

• Help maintain the controlled substance records and narc room
o Reconcile yellow sheets
o Ordering controlled meds
o Physical maintenance of CII safe
• Provide orientation to new employees and maintain a comprehensive training program for
pharmacy technicians
o Maintain a training guide/book
o Sterile product training
o Tech check tech training
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three years of hospital pharmacy experience and a demonstrated capacity for supervisory responsibility.
REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:
Registration as a certified pharmacy technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent verbal, typed, and written communication skills required. Skilled in clerical practices and methods, spelling, arithmetic, English, and general office procedures. General computer and internet skills required; experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access preferred. Must have a working knowledge of pharmacy and medical terminology, as well as sterile compounding technique (USP 797).
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:
Works closely with clinics, nursing units, EMS units, other hospitals, and various other departments.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
Work is of medium demand; walking and standing a great deal of time. May occasionally be asked to lift objects weighing up to fifty pounds. Near visual acuity required.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Hours of duty may be irregular to accomodate departmental requirements. May be required to take call and work weekends.
