Role Overview:
Shape your future with a dynamic internship experience at New York Life. Your internship journey is designed to challenge you through hands-on work experience that will equip you with valuable skills you can use anywhere. The Group Benefit Solutions (GBS) Life Insurance intern is able to work remotely or hybrid out of the Pittsburgh, PA office. This internship provides an opportunity for interns to gain insight into our Life Insurance department and New York Life’s business values and experience a corporate environment, while collaborating on project work across the organization, and participate in professional development activities to further their skills. This is a part-time internship that requires a minimum of 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during the summer. The internship will start in January 2025.
What You’ll Do:
As a GBS intern, you will work in our Life Insurance department to support Life Specialists in the day to day claim investigation process. The primary duties of the role will include loading claims, sending general correspondences as needed, conducting phone calls, as well as various other claims related projects.

A customer service mindset with the ability to work well with people in a team‐oriented workplace setting.
Required Skills:
- College undergraduate actively pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree with an expected graduation date of 2026.
- Able to work a minimum 20 hours per week during the summer and minimum of 15 hours per week is required during the academic year.
- Effective team player with collaborative skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities
Preferred Skills:
- Preferred background in customer service, including proficiency in phone communication
- Knowledge of life insurance industry preferred
Pay Transparency
Salary range: $21/ hour
Overtime eligible: Nonexempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: No
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
