Position: Principal Scientist

Location: Richmond, VA

Department: Molecular Genomics

Shift: First Shift - Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM EST

This is a fully onsite role based at our BIOA Laboratory in Richmond, VA. We welcome applicants from all locations within the US. Discover Impactful Work: 

Oversees the technical aspects and laboratory conduct of a significant service offering, technical area, or client program. Provides focused technical expertise as a key scientific resource for a broad array of instrument applications. Provides key technical guidance and assistance to quickly and efficiently resolve complex technical issues, for both internal support and client needs. Acts as the technical project leader or subject matter expert for multiple projects or programs, interacts with clients to provide technical project updates, reviews and evaluates data, writes reports and protocols, and provides input on regulatory compliance. In addition, participates in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies ensuring the laboratory stays current in technologies required to best serve Thermo Fisher Scientific clients and to meet business needs or explore new business growth opportunities.

A day in the Life:

  • Oversee setup, qualification, and validation of an NGS instrument (e.g. Illumina, PacBio, Ultima)
  • Lead evaluation and implementation of spatial sequencing technologies (10x Genomics Chromium, Visium, Xenium)
  • Develop and implement the sequencing strategy for the lab, in line with organizational and client objectives
  • Mentor scientists and analysts in NGS workflows, QC, and data interpretation
  • Partner with automation, bioinformatics, and proteomics teams for multi-omics integration
  • Represent the lab in vendor partnerships, conferences, and technical collaborations

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in lab sciences such as biology, biochemistry, immunology, chemistry, molecular biology or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification. Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 12+ years).
