About the Team

The Search team operates at the very core of Workday’s enterprise system technology, solving complex and interesting search problems across large datasets. The team crafts and develops efficient and scalable software and tools in support of a flexible search solution for Workday. The team contributes to the technology behind data normalization, search relevance, and machine learning with the goal of providing intelligent search functionality across Workday As a leader on this team, you will work with highly innovative, skilled, and collaborative engineers to use data and machine learning technology to interpret user queries with high precision and provide relevant results that anticipate user needs.

About the Role

Lead a team of hardworking, multifaceted and hard-working software engineers, working with key architects, product managers and partner teams to deliver innovative software solutions.

• Empower the team with clear goals and direction to produce quality solutions on time
• Collaborate with product management and QA to improve not just the product, but efficiencies in engineering processes
• Build positive relationships with application and technology teams to drive teamwork toward effective solutions
• Foster the career development of the team by guiding the team’s experience and growth
• Be a strong advocate for development processes, engineering standard methodologies, quality and practice of continuous improvement
• Run and plan agile releases by understanding the details (effort, risk, priority, dependencies) of the planned features

About You

Basic Qualifications - Manager, Software Development Engineering

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 3+ years leading a technical team and/or experience with handling software engineering teams
• 5+ years of experience with software development
• 6+ years of software development experience in with one or more of the following coding languages: Java, Scala, Python, C++

Other Qualifications

• Possess a high cognitive ability to be able to decipher the best solutions given business requirements on tight target dates
• A consistent track record to empower, mentor, motivate and encourage an extraordinary team of developers
• Experience in leading software design for distributed systems
• Strong leadership, communication, and organization skills

Workday Pay Transparency Statement

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below.  Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things.
