Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
How you will make an impact
The incumbent in this position serves as the Assistant Principal of Student Services within the Deaf High School. The position is responsible for assuring compliance with all Federal, State, Board of Trustee and Administrative mandates, guidelines, and rules within their respective unit.
- Provide direct supervision and evaluation to Certified School Counselors, the Coordinator of Student Conduct, Behavioral Program Specialist, Educational Diagnostician, Dual Sensory Impaired Services Coordinator, Academic Data Support, and the Off-Campus Academic Coordinator. Monitor staff performance through observations, goal setting, regular feedback, and evaluation to ensure alignment with school priorities and student needs. Support staff in implementing programs that address academic and behavioral development while fostering collaboration and consistency across departments. Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement to ensure high-quality services and support for all Deaf High School students. Promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment that reflects the school’s vision and mission.
- Collaborate with the Principal and DHS Assistant Principal of Instruction to develop systems that promote the safety, well-being, and success of all students. Oversee the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Work with the School Threat Management Team, ensuring compliance with Section 1006.07, F.S., and best practices for student safety. In collaboration with the Coordinator of Student Conduct, manage and monitor the bullying prevention program, investigations, resolutions and consequences, and communication with families.
- Support the DHS Assistant Principal of Instruction to manage and monitor the Positive Behavior Intervention Program (PBIS). Develop and implement systems for positive behavior management that align with school policies. Monitor student behavior, programming, and behavior plans to promote a safe and supportive learning environment. Collaborate with DHS Assistant Principal of Instruction, teachers, staff, and families to address chronic absenteeism, suspensions, and student discipline issues. Utilize restorative practices, conflict resolution strategies, and behavior management systems to promote a positive and inclusive school culture. Ensure compliance with FSDB Code of Conduct, state, and federal laws related to student safety and conduct. Along with the DHS Assistant Principal of Instruction, attend IEP meetings for DHS students and admissions meetings for prospective students.
- Oversee and support DHS student clubs, organizations, and extracurricular activities to foster engagement and leadership opportunities. Act as a liaison to student leadership programs, providing opportunities for students to develop leadership skills. Facilitate coordination of DHS events, assemblies, and student leadership initiatives. Recognize and celebrate student achievements in academics, leadership, and extracurricular activities to build a culture of success.
- Develop strong relationships with families to support student success, including consistent communication regarding academic, social, and behavioral progress. Coordinate with boarding, physical education, athletics, and related services to provide comprehensive support for student development and well-being.
