Job Summary
Do you have hands-on machining experience and a passion for teaching the next generation of skilled machinists? The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is seeking a full-time Associate Instructor of Machine Tool Technology to join our faculty at the Ruth & Steve West Workforce Development Center.
The primary focus of this role is providing quality instruction in machine tool technology, guiding students through conventional and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining skills, and maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom. Your responsibilities include evaluating and monitoring student progress, maintaining attendance and grade records, and advising students on career goals. Reporting to the Vice President of Instruction, you will help maintain program quality and accreditation standards while supporting student completion and job placement.
This full-time faculty position follows a typical schedule of 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. It offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive State of Tennessee benefits package.
Job Duties
Instruction
- Facilitate the classroom instructional process for post-secondary, secondary, and special industry students.
- Evaluate and monitor student progress, assign grades, and provide academic assistance to students.
- Maintain attendance and grade records, and counsel and advise students on career goals.
- Work to retain students and maintain required classroom and office hours.
- Maintain appropriate records and submit timely reports.
Course and Curriculum Development
- Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources.
- Participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment.
- Develop instructional materials, and create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed.
- Maintain updated course syllabi.
Professional Development
- Remain current within the instructional field and technologies.
- Acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials.
- Attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities, and support related professional organizations.
- Participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.
Service to Students
- Comply with FERPA laws.
- Participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students.
- Assist students with job placement.
- Support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events.
Service to the College and Community
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned.
- Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes.
- Support and participate in the College's decision-making processes, and provide input and assistance with budgets.
- Attend convocation and commencement exercises, and participate in mandatory college programs.
- Develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues.
- Develop industry partnerships and maintain an active program advisory committee.
- Work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement, as well as accreditation standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate degree or equivalent post-secondary diploma from an accredited technical training program in a related field.
- Three years of full-time, related work experience as a machinist within the last five years.
- Knowledge of and the ability to operate conventional machinist and computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment.
- Commitment to remain current in the machinist field and maintain program accrediting status.
