SUMMARY

Performs entry-level electrical work to maintain and repair airfield lighting circuits, signs, and regulators at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, ensuring compliance with FAA Part 139 standards for airfield operations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and maintain airfield lighting circuits, control systems, lighting regulators, emergency generators, UPS systems, transfer switches, and other electrical components. Perform operational tests, maintain logs, and ensure compliance with FAA regulations.

  • Maintain and repair aircraft ramp lighting.

  • Perform electrical maintenance on bus shelters and other airport buildings.

  • Conduct basic inspections on airport construction projects.

  • Operate various motorized vehicles, including aerial lifts, forklifts, trenchers, backhoes, and pickup trucks.

Additional Information:

  • Works (1st shift, Monday-Thursday, 6:00 AM-4:00 PM). This position is considered essential and requires the ability to work other shifts and overtime when required by assignment, inclement weather, or urgent/emergency situations. Subject to emergency calls back to work.

  • Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for City driving permit.

  • Ability to acquire Movement Area Training endorsement within 6 months.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • No minimum level plus three years of experience

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent plus one year of experience

Preferred Qualification:

Prefer high school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles of electrical circuits, wiring systems, and construction.

Skill in:

  • Troubleshooting electrical systems.

  • Using electrical tools and testing equipment (e.g. clamp meters)

Ability to:

  • Perform entry level work on electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Become familiar with, FAA Part 139 standards for the airfield environment and TSA airport security requirements.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, tenants, and the public.

  • Follow verbal and written instructions.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires approximately 70% of the time spent standing, bending, reaching, and walking. The remaining time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, shoveling, carrying, and driving. The ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. is required, with occasional lifting, pulling, or carrying up to 100 lbs. for short distances with assistance.

Work is primarily conducted outdoors, with exposure to various elements such as inclement weather, machinery, dust, chemicals, fumes, solvents, moving vehicles, scaffolding, ladders, vibrating tools, excessive noise, large crowds, and slippery or uneven surfaces. The position may require the use of heavy equipment, including electric drills, electric saws, pipe wrenches, pick-up trucks, and all hand tools.
