Job Description Summary

The Muskegon EHS Leader will be responsible for owning all environmental, health, and safety programs across the Muskegon and Norton Shores location to ensure a safe, compliant, and continuously improving work environment. This role provides strategic direction and hands-on leadership for all EHS tasks, functions, and personnel, including program development, implementation, and oversight of regulatory compliance. The EHS Leader partners closely with site leadership, operations, maintenance, and HR to identify and control risks, drive injury and incident reduction, and embed a strong safety culture at all levels of the organization. This role ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory, customer, and corporate requirements, while driving risk reduction and supporting operational excellence in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC).

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead EHS strategy and culture: Own the development and deployment of the EHS vision, roadmap, and goals, aligned with business priorities and GE Aerospace requirements. Provide visible, floor-level leadership that promotes a strong safety culture, empowers employees to speak up, and integrates EHS into daily operations and decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance and manage risk: Maintain compliant EHS management systems, procedures, and permits, meeting all applicable regulatory and corporate standards. Proactively identify, assess, and control risks through hazard assessments, job safety analyses, safe work permits, and targeted risk-reduction projects.
  • Drive investigations, audits, and continuous improvement: Lead or oversee incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring timely and effective corrective and preventive actions. Plan and execute audits, inspections, and self-assessments, using FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model, and data trends to problem-solve and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop training, engagement, and emergency preparedness: Create and maintain EHS training plans and ensure completion and documentation. Lead employee engagement initiatives and manage emergency preparedness, response, and contingency programs, including drills and coordination with internal leaders and external agencies for both locations. Develop relationships with local emergency management agencies and familiarize them with our work and locations.
  • Manage EHS performance and standardization: Define, track, and report EHS KPIs and leading indicators for the site, using data to prioritize actions and resources. Standardize EHS practices, tools, and processes where practical across both locations, while tailoring for site-specific regulatory and operational needs.
  • Lead and develop people and partnerships: Manage and develop EHS staff and/or matrixed resources, setting clear expectations and supporting growth. Build strong partnerships with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Facilities, HR, and other functions to embed EHS into projects, changes, and daily management.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree accredited college or university + Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience OR  (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years in industrial hygiene/safety experience + a minimum of 5 years in manufacturing experience)
