At Dugway Proving Ground (DPG), southwest of Salt Lake City Utah, SA-TECH supports the West Desert Test Center (WDTC), the nation’s designated Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) for chemical and biological defense. The WDTC plans, conducts, evaluates, reports, and supports Chemical and Biological (CB) and non-CB testing efforts for the Department of Defense (DoD), other federal agencies, private industries, and foreign Governments (e.g., environmental assessment/impact evaluations, weapons and munitions demilitarization, chemical energetics/homemade explosive testing, unmanned systems testing, direct and indirect fire weapons testing, hazard assessments, and technical/logistical support of operations at DPG).
At DPG, SA-TECH is looking to bring a Principal Engineer onto our team to provide expertise in power distribution systems and control of various Chemical and Biological laboratories.
The control systems are not consistent throughout the laboratories and range from PLC control to OTS control boards with proprietary controls. The main control for containment of the labs are ventilation systems which control air flow and pressure. The candidate will be required to design, write, troubleshoot, and modify control systems to support laboratories or other test fixtures.
Some of the duties of this role, but not all, include:
- Design, troubleshoot, and modifying Industrial power distribution systems, both high and low voltage.
- Troubleshoot electrical industrial equipment, control systems to include but not limited to pressure, flow, VFDs, and power distribution systems.
- Write source code and implemented PLC programing for controls for an industrial process.
- Write HMI programs using AB RS View and PanelView or other equivalent software
- Used ACAD to revise and review drawings for electrical installations.
- Participate in design process team meetings Conceptual Design, Pre-hazard Analysis, Design Review, or Modification to existing systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions:
- Work is mostly performed in an environmentally controlled office environment but occasional field work would expose you to the environment.
- Possibly work with, and around, physical equipment, potentially in challenging outdoor/field conditions, requiring adaptability.
- Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to view computer monitors for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks that require such protective gear.
Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 20 years of experience applying engineering and scientific principles to the accomplishment of technical tasks and problems.
- Experience in project management, leadership and supervision.
- Capable of evaluating projects and developing cost estimates, technical approaches, designs of industrial control systems, programing and architecture of software for PLC, HMI programming, Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plans and identifying key elements that may impact the success of a project.
- Types of software used, but not limited to, include AB RS View, PanelView, Wonderware, and AB Factory Talk Studio.
- Experience with the above-mentioned duties is highly preferred, but not mandatory.
