About the team

Elastic Cloud is the fastest growing part of Elastic’s business and dedicated to solving customer problems in the cloud at planetary scale. We operate across all top 3 public cloud providers, in dozens of regions across the world, hosting mission critical workloads for customers in every industry.

The Cloud Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is dedicated to managing the cloud infrastructure, security, and operations of our SaaS offering. We aren’t afraid to get our hands dirty. We are the first and best customer for Elastic's products and our experience helps influence the direction of Elastic’s entire product set. We ensure that our customers can use Elastic Cloud on any provider, in any region, at any scale, with mission-critical reliability. We’re looking for people who are just as passionate about solving issues with distributed systems as they are to automate, code and collaborate to solve problems.

Right now, we are looking for an experienced Senior Director to head up, grow, manage, lead, mentor and further develop our fully globally distributed team of cloud specialists.

What you will be doing

• Lead, retain, develop, hire and mentor high-performing and diverse teams across your org
• Operate mission critical services on a globally distributed level, using cloud hosting providers like AWS, GCP, Azure, and more
• Act as a key member of the senior leadership team for Elastic’s Cloud business
• Understand our company strategy and help guide our Cloud product’s direction to realize it
• Work across teams at Elastic to ensure that we are able to deliver our solutions in production with scale and reliability
• Guide your team to ensure good engineering practices are being followed

What would be great:

• Experience as a hands-on software engineer so you understand the core principles of the engineering work
• Experience supporting customer problems and communication
• Experience or interest in speaking/presenting at tech conferences.
• Experience in managing on-call schedules (PagerDuty, VictorOps, etc)
• Experience at Open source projects and companies
• Experience in communication and organization in large, distributed teams

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary.  This role does not have a variable compensation component.  

The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below.  In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below. 

These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.
