Salary Range: $165,000 - $375,000
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000 - $375,000 plus bonus eligibility and other elements of our total rewards package. The range represents the amount bnsf | tech reasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

As a Product Design Engineer, you will
- Design, develop, and validate mechanical and electrical components of IoT solutions for deployment in industrial rail applications.
- Ensure rugged and weather-resistant enclosures, mounting hardware, and system interfaces meet all relevant standards (e.g., IP/NEMA ratings) and can withstand challenging conditions such as extreme temperatures, dust, and vibration.
- Select and integrate power supplies, create wiring diagrams, and determine cabling requirements to ensure reliable electrical performance and compliance with industry regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including embedded software engineers, systems engineers, and project managers—to define product requirements and technical specifications.
- Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation efforts, including compliance with relevant safety and quality standards or certifications.
- Design testing procedures to ensure product reliability under extreme temperature, vibration, and dust conditions, as well as compliance with relevant industry standards.
- Prepare and maintain detailed design documentation, including mechanical drawings, 3D CAD models, and electrical schematics.
- Develop manufacturing plans, product rollouts, and assembly manuals, ensuring a clear path from initial concept through production and deployment.
- Coordinate with external suppliers and fabrication partners to manage parts procurement, assess feasibility, and optimize designs for manufacturability.
- Utilize project management skills to track schedules, budgets, and resource allocation, ensuring that projects remain on track and within scope.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve product reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
