Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a Division Director for the Engineering Management Division. This position will also serve as the Management System Owner (MSO) for Engineering requirements and programs. This position executes a stewardship function for ORNL’s decentralized conduct of engineering. This position ensures engineering requirements are appropriate and clear, provides implementation guidance, and conducts assurance activities.
This position ensures key roles and functions are assigned and executed such as the UT-B Chief Engineer, Building Code Official, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction for Electrical and Fire. Additionally, this position ensures subject matter experts are identified and assigned for programs such as Engineering Design, Configuration Management, Pressure System Safety, Welding / Burning / HotWork, Fire Protection, Ventilation / Local Exhaust, System Safety, Electrical Installation Inspections, and Arc Flash Assurance.
This position leads the Engineering Management Division which is within the Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and will report to the Associated Laboratory Director for ESH&Q.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Lead and serve as the Division Director for the Engineering Management Division. This includes leadership of staff, determining, prioritizing, and executing strategic initiatives to support the Lab Agenda, and budgeting for the Division and the Engineering Management System.

Serve as the Management System Owner (MSO) for engineering requirements and programs. Reference formal R2A2s for MSOs.

Serve as the supervisor for the ORNL Chief Engineer, the Authorities Having Jurisdiction for Electrical and Fire, and the Group Leaders for Fire Protection and for Engineering Programs and Services.

Unless delegated to the Chief Engineer, serve as an engineering-related representative for UT-Battelle’s to internal and external organizations.

Work with the Chief Engineer and others to ensure engineering related requirements and programs are clear and up to date in UT-Battelle’s command media. This includes DOE directives and applicable industry codes and standards.

Support the Chief Engineer in the identification and designation of Design Authority Representatives across ORNL.

Ensure engineering management system subject matter experts are identified, qualified, supported, and effective.

Serve on teams, investigations, and other initiatives as assigned by senior management.

Possess experience with a range of industry codes and standards applicable to DOE missions such as the I-Codes, NFPA, ASME, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

Documented experience and demonstrated success in leadership roles related to engineering across organizational boundaries.

A B.S. degree in an ABET accredited engineering degree (e.g., B.S. in Mechanical Engineering).

A minimum of 15 years of experience in the conduct of engineering including a minimum of 10 years of experience as a proven leader in the application of engineering requirements and programs.

Understanding of risk and the effective use of graded approach.
