Job Summary
Leads all risk and compliance functions for Marketing, ensuring that marketing strategies, communications, and campaigns meet all regulatory, operational and reputational risk standards. Acts as the primary liaison for leadership and stakeholders regarding audits, control exams, control testing, issues/incident resolution, policy and procedures governance, business continuity and adhoc risk and compliance requests. Identifies and evaluates operational risks related to marketing activities, and implement effective controls. Monitors activities for potential issues, and communicates risk status to key stakeholders and manager. This role is critical in enabling compliant, customer-centric marketing while supporting innovation, personalization, and digital growth across all lines of business that Marketing supports.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Control Exams & Audits: Participates in all scheduled annual audits and control exams. Responsible for gathering materials, documentation, and understanding all current processes to the degree of being able to educate and illustrate what Marketing does to non-Marketing stakeholders. Identifies gaps in documentation and working with various Marketing teams to create appropriate process and control documentation that bolster our risk management efforts.
- Issue Management: Leads remediation efforts by ensuring timely completion of action items and implementing effective controls to mitigate risks. Monitors progress on regulatory corrective actions and collaborates with Marketing stakeholders to ensure alignment with remediation plans. Delivers training to Marketing team members on updated procedures as needed to support ongoing compliance and risk management.
- Self-Management & Reporting: Manages Marketing's risk management projects within Workfront, along with any ad-hoc analyses or reporting requested by leadership. Provides regular status updates and reports to the manager and Executive Director on risk-related activities. Establishes a systematic approach to track and monitor the progress of issues identified both internally and through external reviews.
- Compliance: Partners closely with key compliance teams, including Regulatory Compliance, Mortgage Compliance, Wealth Compliance, and Fair & Responsible Banking, to stay ahead of emerging regulatory risks across all products and services supported by Marketing. Build strong, collaborative relationships with each group to understand their specific requirements and provides strategic guidance on process improvements that enhance both efficiency and compliance effectiveness.
- Policies & Procedures: Develops and maintains marketing compliance policies, procedureal documentation, and audit trails to ensure accountability and transparency. Identifies and recommends process improvements to Marketing stakeholders. Fosters active, two-way collaboration with Second Line Risk Management, communicating business-driven changes that may impact enterprise programs and proactively adapting to updates in enterprise risk requirements.
- Data Governance: Evaluates the use of customer data in marketing strategies, ensuring appropriate controls, documentation, and approvals are in place before campaign launch. Develops deep expertise in Synovus's data systems, as well as standard marketing data requirements and exclusions. Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the accurate, compliant, and effective use of customer data across all marketing efforts.
- Risk Governance: Collaborates closely with Risk to develop and maintains business process group descriptions, organizational hierarchies, and regulatory applicability. Advocates for meaningful enhancements to process descriptions and risk profiles/scoring. Builds deep expertise in all Marketing activities to effectively educate non-Marketing partners in a clear and accessible manner.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
