Director, Full Stack Engineering – Staff Engineer

The Role

The Fidelity Insurance Group (FIG) Technology team is a small, growing team in Enterprise Services with a Start Up feel. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on technology leader to develop and implement the engineering and architecture vision for our platforms. This role combines strategic leadership, technical expertise, and multi-functional collaboration to deliver scalable, secure, and innovative solutions. You will partner with business and technology leaders to coordinate product roadmaps alongside technology initiatives, drive architectural evolution, and lead end-to-end solutioning across multiple domains. 

As a member of the technical leadership team, you will work with teams that compose and develop solutions. Your role includes championing innovation, driving standardization, and delivering modern technology patterns across the stack for our customers. 

This is a fast-paced technology group that adopts new technologies with focus on building innovative and cloud-native experiences, capabilities, and platforms in support of millions of customers who are seeking products that provide guaranteed income and/or protection. We are an emerging group in Fidelity with strong strategic financial backing.

Strategy & Planning

• Define and implement technology vision in partnership with architecture, engineering, and product leadership. 

• Align product roadmaps with technology-focused initiatives and ensure alignment to enterprise standards. 

• Develop roadmaps, capability maps, and lifecycle management plans for sophisticated tech stacks.

• Champion platform stability, modernization, and adoption of new technologies. 

Solutioning

• Lead end-to-end solution design, including business capability analysis, domain modeling, API strategy, and microservices definitions.

• Drive cloud adoption and automation strategies, ensuring outstanding performance, robust security, consistent dependability, and cost optimization. 

• Evaluate technologies, lead Proofs-of-Concept (POCs), and guide teams through solution best practices and frameworks (e.g., TOGAF).

• Apply principles of Domain-Driven Design and consistent methodology (e.g. Twelve-Factor App or similar) to new and existing domains.

Coaching & Mentoring

• Mentor agile teams, including developers, testers, and analysts, fostering strong engineering rigor.

• Support the development of next-generation technical leaders through coaching and advocacy for developer experience.

• Serve as a trusted authority on technical standards and solutions.

Hands-on Engineering

• Provide technical leadership on strategic projects spanning multiple business units. Provides technical guidance and leadership. 

• Contribute to solution design and development activities, ensuring incremental value delivery. Gets into details and takes on development activities.

• Shape engineering guidelines and keep them aligned with industry trends and Fidelity-specific practices.

Scope & Influence

• Coach multiple agile teams and collaborate across business units to build an engaged engineering community.

• Influence technology decisions at all levels and drive adoption of best practices in architecture and engineering.

The Skills & Expertise You Bring

• 10+ years of hands-on experience as a full-stack engineer and/or solution architect.

• Experience leading the Lifecycle of multiple concurrent solutions through strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, engaging with multiple functions, business analysis, architecture definition, POC creation, presentation skills, influential ability, and an ability to make progress despite ambiguity.

• Proven experience in engineering large-scale web applications end-to-end, with a focus on customer experience, operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and improving cost efficiency. 

• Experience in designing, implementing, or maintaining systems that support Term Life Insurance operations such as policy administration, underwriting and claims processing is a plus.

• Proficient in Cloud Architecture, Services, and Patterns. Hands-on experience with Core AWS services is a must-have, e.g. Amazon VPC, DNS, ELB, CloudFront, API Gateway, IAM, EKS, Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, S3, RDS Oracle/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Secrets M
