About the role

Job Description

Applications are invited for a two-year postdoctoral position with the possibility of a one-year extension with the Department of Mathematics at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. The position involves research in modeling and simulation of within-host virus dynamics, theoretical immunology and multiscale immune-epidemiological models of infectious diseases and teaching two classes per year. The individual will also be responsible for writing documents, including grant reports and publications.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Mathematics or a related field with a background in statistical and mathematical modeling. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
• Research in mathematical applications to biological questions.
• Solid background in coding.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse team from multiple disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to lead graduate student research.
• Track record in publishing in high-impact peer-reviewed journals or conferences.
• Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Matlab.
