Principal Sr Principal Hardware Developer
OracleAbout the role
Network Hardware Engineers support the design, deployment, and operations of
a large-scale global Oracle cloud computing environment (Oracle Cloud
Infrastructure - OCI). Primarily focused on developing and deploying the
physical rack layouts, cabling design, and Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications.
Pluggable Optics engineers are responsible for driving the test/qualification of the
physical components deployed by Pluggable Optics Engineering and the
product lifecycle management in the pluggable optics space. We are looking for
engineers with a unique background covering numerous areas of network
hardware engineering, including cabling, low-level device performance, thermals,
etc. As OCI is a cloud-based network with a global footprint, this support will
include hundreds of thousands of network devices supporting millions of servers,
connected over a mix of dedicated backbone infrastructure and the Internet.
Lead the standardization of our rack SKUs and the buildout of a standardized
cabling solution by defining high-level objectives and delivery procedures.
Organizes project technical landmarks & supporting tasks. Worked as project
technical lead, coordinating the efforts of several engineers across multiple teams in
the organization. Advises project/program manager and coordinates with
immediate and skip-level leadership. Collaborates across teams within the same org
(same VP) and outside of the org. Serve as technical SME in multi-functional
activities. Has technical responsibility for complex project(s), including project
requirements, specifications (where applicable), and documentation. Responsible
for decomposing high-level architectures into detailed designs. Ability to lead
multiple engineers in developing network solutions consisting of multiple modules
with complex interactions; Work with supporting service teams to ensure solutions
are adequately supported by monitoring and automation systems. Serves specialized
escalation for all physical design and cabling issues within networking. Serves as
the principal point of contact for driving systematic resolution of complex network
design issues. Please take a look at current and future cabling and optical standards, cable
plant design, rack structural calculations, and rack integration best practices.
Provides a broad set of guidance to technical and senior technical members of
staff. Interprets guidance from leaders (technical and managers) and offers focused development for junior members. Able to carry out technical coaching
sessions, and helps junior members develop skills. Collaborates with vendor
engineering and account manager to address current business or operational
issues. Participates in the development of RFQ/RFPs. This may lead to the adoption of
new vendor hardware. Active communication with product teams.
Responsible for driving technology to meet product and service requirements. Participate in
coordinated communication with product teams, networking leadership, and PMO
to help assess gaps, solutions, and needs.
Career Level - IC5 Providing technical leadership for designing, developing,
modifying, and evaluating electronic, electro-mechanical, or mechanical
components, assemblies, or integrated circuitry for hardware systems for the
external market. This includes new designs and modification activities that result
in significant product enhancement. Activities encompass design, analysis, testing
, and process development using engineering principles and methods. Technical
subject areas may include electrical and logical design of printed circuit boards or
integrated circuits, mechanical design of electronics enclosures or integrated
circuit packaging, and embedded software/firmware design.
