Roles & Responsibilities: 

A full-time position is available in the Center for Advanced Genomics Technology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. The Center (CAGT) focuses on technology adoption, research and development to create high-throughput diagnostics and innovative IP. CAGT has applied WGS, single cell genomics, genome-editing and targeted genomics approach towards a better understanding of genomic variation for higher resolution human disease diagnostics in cancer and inherited disease, alongside infectious disease surveillance using both long and short-read sequencing techniques. 

You will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team of CAGT and many research collaborators on projects related to bioinformatics, big data science and systems biology.  Ideal candidates will bring expertise, humility and a strong intellectual curiosity to our overall mission of democratizing access to genetic information.

  • Managing large datasets collected from multiple sequencing platforms
  • Automating data processing pipelines
  • Applying machine learning to identify patterns in large and complex datasets
  • Developing novel statistical strategies and algorithms
  • Data visualizations
  • Generate and pursue novel ideas to improve and draw insights from multi-omics long read and single cell genomics platforms
  • M.S. in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics, Computational Biology, or Genomics. Alternately, M.S. in a discipline requiring strong computational and analytical skills supplemented with some biology exposure. Ph.D in a related field preferred. Those with a Bachelors degree and additional post-graduate experience are considered.
  • 2+ years post-graduate experience in a research environment, including the manipulation of large biological datasets.
  • Advanced knowledge of genetics and/or statistical analysis software and online resources. Experience in programming environments such as MatLab, R statistical package, BioConductor, Perl and C++.
  • Strong interest in working on data-intensive biomedical research problems
  • Extensive experience in RNA-Seq, Whole Exome/Genome analyses, Single Cell Genomics
  • 4 Years experience in bioinformatics
  • Experience with statistical analyses, machine learning
  • Extensive knowledge of programming in Python, R, LSF/Slurm schedulers, GCP/AWS
  • Knowledge of molecular and cell biology

Preferred:

  • Experience shipping code in a clinical production environment
  • Experience applying machine-learning techniques to real world problems.
  • Experience with development in a cloud computing environment
  • Drive innovation in the junction between software and genetics
  • Help change the business and product approach in genomics R&D
