Program Overview & Location

The Acuity Brands Internship Program is a 10–12 week experience (May – August, 40 hours/week) designed to develop high-potential candidates into marketing leaders through hands-on experiences that connect interns’ strengths and interests with the needs of the business. In addition to making an impact through your participation in key projects and transformative processes, you will have an opportunity to mentor and network with leaders throughout Acuity Brands.
It is preferred for interns to only have one or two semesters left in their degree program, so they can be considered for our Leadership Program immediately following the completion of the internship. Our Leadership Program is a full-time, entry level rotational program that allows recent graduates to explore different areas within a functional area. These experiences allow young talent to grow their skill set and network within the company while figuring out what they are passionate about early on in their careers.
This role primarily works onsite from Acuity in Decatur.
Primary Responsibilities
While specific projects and activities vary during your internship, you can expect to:
- Work in an electro-mechanical environment primarily focused on product design, part assembly and detailed part drawings.
- Work on prototyping, testing, and assembling prototypes and samples.
- Learn and develop skillsets within Product Development, Project Management, Testing/Certification, Tooling Methodologies, Design for eXcellence, and an introduction to embedded controls and drivers for several strategic priorities.
- Lead the testing/certification workstreams.
Qualifications
In addition to pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university, qualified interns will have:
- Basic experience in project, timeline, and budget management.
- Basic understanding of electronics design, and wiring practices.
- Proficient use of 3D/2D CAD (Solidworks preferred), MS Office, etc.
- Understanding of Lean & Six Sigma methodology and practices such as standard work, time study, cause & effect, 5WHY analysis and other tools of DMAIC.
- Some understanding of manufacturing methods such as stamping, drawing, casting, extruding of metals and plastics.
- Ability to communicate verbally, in written form and through sketches, and engineering drawings.
- Works well in cross- functional team environments.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross functional team members.
- Relevant internship or project experience.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Proven problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Experience leading teams or organizations.
