Job Summary:

Assists the department by leading the work of lower level technicians and/or coordinating department operations. Works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist while providing pharmaceutical services. Participates in training of new technicians and performance improvement work teams as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Three years' technical experience: Preferred
  • Two years' hospital pharmacy technician experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • State Pharmacy Techncian license: Required
  • Pharmaceutical Technician Board certification: Preferred
  • CPhT OR CPHT-NHA: Required

Facility Specific License/Certifications:

  • State Pharmacy Technician (PTC): Required

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for complex medication preparation and dispensing. Assists in the orientation and training of Pharmacy Technicians, including serving as a resource, assisting them with performing procedures and/or calculations as required, and with understanding of operation of equipment.
  • Maintains ability to process pharmacy charges which includes chemotherapy and infusion charges, corrections, and pharmacy computer programs.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate patient information in the pharmacy computer database. Delivers medication to nursing units and other areas as required. Prepares and delivers drug orders as requested from appropriate staff. Maintains pharmacy daily activity log book. Pulls and fills medication orders and labels.
  • Routinely performs chemotherapy and infusion center product preparation and compounding. Oversees the technical aspects of the intravenous admixture program, including compounding, filing and delivery of intravenous medications to the nursing units.
  • Inventories the supply storage area to monitor supply level needs, outdated medications and ensuring rotation of stock and order as needed according to existing par levels.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
