Job OverviewThe Executive Director Transportation will provide overall leadership to the Transportation department by planning, administering, directing and coordinating the transit operation for the safe and on-time delivery of the students of the District. The incumbent will maximize the resources of the Department's personnel, equipment, and supplies to provide the highest level of safe and on-time transit to students and employees of the District.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations
- Provide managerial direction and control of departmental activities
- Plan, direct and review the activities and operations of the department
- Provide leadership and supervise directly and through subordinate supervisors all department staff
- Develop goals, objectives, policies, procedures and practices to provide safe and efficient student transportation
- Guide planning and implementation of the District's environmental stewardship efforts, including reduction in the use of energy and reduction in the production of greenhouse gasses, by the use of alternative fuel vehicles
- Develop, track and analyze key performance indicators to foster an atmosphere of continuous improvement
- Plan for the accommodation of significant future student growth and its impact on department resources
- Coordinate the preparation and approval of resource plans, budget analysis and budgets in support of District objectives
- Drive a school bus as a substitute when required
- Maintain compliance with the statutory requirements of various state and national regulations or agencies including the Texas Education code, Texas Transportation code, Vernon's Texas Civil Statues, Texas Department of Public safety, and the United States Department of Transportation
- Manage fiscal and physical resources and direct the operations of a broad range of activities through subordinate managers to successfully carry out responsibilities
- Develop and implement the Division's personnel human resource plan, including recruiting, developing and retaining staff; evaluating and counseling staff; and providing opportunities for growth and professional development at all levels of the division
- Prepare and effectively deliver presentations to the Board of Trustees, Executive Team members, civic groups and staff as necessary
- Represent the District in legislative, judicial, and policy/procedural matters pertaining to transit related affairs
- Represent the District in professional organizations and community meetings at local, state and federal levels
- Consult with various public agencies concerning District related transportation matters
- Collaborate with other District departments to provide effective and efficient transportation
- Supervise and evaluate subordinate's job performance to ensure effectiveness and makes sound recommendations about placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies and Procedures

- Bachelor's Degree or a minimum of ten years of progressive supervisory experience in transportation operations, general management, some of which shall have been at the level of director and/or executive position will be considered in lieu of degree requirement
