We’re seeking a motivated and strategic Business Development Manager, Senior to lead critical business development efforts across national-level opportunities in the defense and homeland security markets. In this individual contributor role, you’ll take ownership of proposal efforts from concept through submission—partnering closely with technical, financial, and operational stakeholders to develop smart, compliant, and compelling solutions.
You’ll serve as the engine behind high-impact pursuits, playing a pivotal role in identifying opportunities, aligning internal resources, and ensuring our solutions meet both customer needs and regulatory requirements. What You’ll Do
- Lead Proposal Efforts
Drive the end-to-end proposal process—from early planning and team coordination to submission. You’ll guide the work of matrixed teams to align with RFP requirements and ensure quality, compliance, and competitiveness. - Support Strategic Business Development
Contribute to the identification and validation of new opportunities, leveraging emerging trends, customer needs, and internal capabilities. - Ensure Regulatory & Proposal Compliance
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure all offerings align with U.S. government regulatory and contracting requirements. - Partner Across Teams
Work closely with engineering, finance, capture, and marketing teams to develop and submit compelling proposals and presentation materials.
What You Bring
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field—or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of proposal development and general BD experience
- 5+ years in the defense or national security industry
- Technical background + BD experience is a strong plus
Demonstrated Skills
- Proven success leading competitive proposals ranging from $100K to multi-million-dollar programs (including R&D, procurement, and programs of record)
- Strong grasp of U.S. government acquisition and proposal requirements
- Familiarity with tracking budgets and timelines using business analysis techniques
- Ability to effectively collaborate across functional teams without formal authority
Working Style
- Excellent communicator with strong writing and presentation skills
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives
- Comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities
- Strategic thinker who also enjoys hands-on execution
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DHS, law enforcement, or DoD security forces
- Familiarity with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and open source data tools for business development information
- Prior experience contributing to or supporting growth strategy development
The salary range for this role is:
$139,371 - $197,400AeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
ITAR Requirement:
This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
