Scope of Position

A highly skilled and innovative Glass Technology Integrator with expertise in glass melting, glass forming, glass composition/properties, and a strong foundation in research, development, and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will serve as a key contributor to the integration of advanced glass technologies, driving new product innovation and optimizing manufacturing processes. This position requires an individual who can bridge the gap between R&D and production, ensuring seamless implementation of glass technologies from concept to commercialization. 

 

Projects will typically have a significant financial and strategic impact and require leadership that is consistent with Corning’s values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate integration of advanced glass technologies, including glass melting, forming, and composition optimization.
  • Conduct research and development to help with the design of new glass compositions tailored to specific applications and performance requirements.
  • Oversee the transition of glass prototypes from laboratory-scale development to full-scale manufacturing, ensuring efficient scalability and process stability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, engineering, and production, to align product development with manufacturing capabilities.
  • Analyze the physical, chemical, and thermal properties of glass families and processes to enhance product quality and performance.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for glass melting, forming, and finishing operations, reducing costs and improving energy efficiency. 
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges in glass production and implement solutions to minimize downtime and enhance consistency. 
  • Stay informed on advancements in glass science, manufacturing technologies, and industry trends to drive innovation and maintain competitive advantage. 
  • Create technical documentation, including process guidelines, material specifications, and research reports, to support knowledge transfer and process standardization.
  • Identify and secure essential intellectual properties in product, process, and manufacturing innovations.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations related to glass manufacturing processes.
  • The ideal candidate would serve as a project leader and/or technical contributor.

 

Travel Requirements: 

  • Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to multiple locations to support business needs.  May require international travel as well.  Travel up to 25%. 

Experiences/Education - Required

  • PhD degree in Materials Science, Glass Technology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience/leadership in glass melting, glass forming, glass composition development, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of materials science principles, particularly related to glass properties and performance.
