About the role

The AWS Security Platform Engineering team operates and builds tools and services for the monitoring and response to malicious activity on Amazon internal endpoints. We collect data from all parts of Amazon's worldwide, service-oriented infrastructure to ensure our services are doing what is expected.

We are looking for a System Development Engineer who is excited about designing and building solutions to solve challenging problems for mission critical systems that protect Amazon and our customer data. We will be implementing a new security service and need someone who can wade through the ambiguity to create a solution that will not only stop unwanted activity on endpoints, but collect the data for security teams to make informed decisions. In AWS Security our challenges are broad and deep -- we build flexible, secure, scalable, high-performant and robust tools and services. You will help implement, operate, and improve current services as well as build new services to improve the security across Amazon and make it easier/faster/cheaper for the customer to get what they need.

In AWS, we obsess over our customers, and their trust is our first priority. Trust is earned by building a highly respected security service to tackle new challenges at a large scale. In this role, you will deliver high quality, scalable products that are deployed to our internal services around the world. You will collaborate with product owners and customers to deliver the best features, using resources and technologies efficiently. You will work with stakeholders to define solutions that scale and satisfy a wide variety of security needs. You are detail driven and have excellent problem solving abilities. The successful candidate is passionate about delivering extensible, on-time solutions and has experience working within a high-performance team.

Work/Life Balance
Our team puts a high value on work-live balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.

On-Call Responsibility
This position involves on-call responsibilities. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members. Our team has a broad mix of experience levels and Amazon tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship.

Our senior engineers truly enjoy mentoring more junior engineers and engineers from non-traditional backgrounds through one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth. We try to assign projects and tasks based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

Inclusive Team Culture
Our team is intentional about attracting, developing, and retaining amazing talent from diverse backgrounds. Yes we do get to work on really cool things but we also think a big reason for that is the inclusive and welcoming culture we try to cultivate every day. We’re looking for a new teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, and able to work effectively with a diverse team of peers; someone who will help us amplify the positive & inclusive team culture we’ve been building.

Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and we host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.

Key job responsibilities
A System Development Engineer in this job will be integrating an EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) solution new to Amazon. To do this they will need to work directly with customers to understand requirements, create a plan for deployment and operations, as well as design, develop, and implement the peripheral solutions such as log collection and aggregation with the Amazon data lake, and management of user interactions within the EDR solution.
