The City of Largo is seeking a creative and energetic Recreation Leader II to join our team at the Southwest Pool. This fun and rewarding role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of aquatic and leisure programs that serve our vibrant community.

Work involves planning, implementing, and evaluating multiple leisure programs. Responsible for developing programs in assigned areas: aquatics, athletics, general recreation, special events, or Central Park Performing Arts. Team Members in this class exercise independent judgment following established policies and procedures. Work is performed under the general direction of an assigned manager.

Program Assignments:
AQUATICS: Creating, planning, and implementing programs at an assigned pool; may coordinate and facilitate rentals for the assigned facility

Recreation Leader II – Aquatics

What You’ll Do:
Design and lead engaging aquatic programs such as swim lessons, water fitness classes, and special events.
Create seasonal schedules and assist with marketing and outreach efforts.
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
Supervise part-time staff and volunteers during programs and events.
Evaluate program success and recommend improvements.
Collaborate with other recreation divisions as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

Management

  • Follows suggested procedures to ensure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety, and risk avoidance

Technical

  • Embraces emerging technology and productivity tools with a willingness to learn new skills
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates multiple leisure programs in the assigned division
  • Responsible for the development of assigned programs, including purchase requisitions, supplier invoices, preparation of basic professional, instructor, and rental contracts for supervisory review, publicity, the delegation of assignments to team members and volunteers, determination of program costs, revenue projections, monthly participation reports, and program observations
  • May oversee assigned specialty camps, including the recruitment of contractual instructors, instructor contracts and payments, and participant communication
  • May assist in the training of team members and volunteers; oversee contractual workers
  • Confers with community groups, individuals, and contractual instructors to determine the needs of the pa
