Support Specialist - On-Call, Float

SUMMARY
The Support Specialist is responsible for assisting participants with their activities and ensuring a safe, positive environment for effective program operations. Serving as a liaison between participants and program staff, the Specialist supports participants informally, promoting motivation and change while maintaining accountability. Responsibilities also include overseeing the facility's safety, security, and sanitation, along with performing duties related to nonresidential participants as needed. The Support Specialist will float between Recovery, Reentry, and Housing programs.
Pay ranges from $20-$22 per hour
There is a $2.00 shift differential for overnight shifts worked
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise house activities, ensuring participants follow program rules and regulations.
- Handle discipline for program violations.
- Maintain security, safety, and sanitation of the facility, conducting regular rounds.
- Conduct intakes for new participants, explaining program rules and expectations, and orienting them to the facility.
- Process and oversee participant medication in compliance with facility policies.
- Maintain effective communication with participants and staff, including daily logs, participant data, incident reports, and maintain confidentiality.
- Perform searches of the facility, participants, and belongings as required.
- Uphold ethical practices and PREA compliance in relationships with participants, staff, and outside entities.
- Provide informal guidance and support to participants, serving as the liaison between them and case managers/counselors/clinical staff.
- Assist with food services, including ordering supplies, making bag lunches, and supervising meals when applicable.
- Collect urinalysis and conduct random breath analysis tests for residential and nonresidential participants.
- Issue warrants per contracting agency directives.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and other professional development activities.
- Assist in orienting new staff or interns as needed.
- Pack up participant rooms and belongings in the situation of discharge
- Assist in calling participant contacts when needed in cases of unexpected transfer or discharges
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- High School Diploma/GED
- At least one year free from problematic substance use
- 6-month gap between any treatment services and employment
Preferred:
- BA/BS degree in human services or related field preferred
- Experience with substance use treatment, criminal justice, or related field preferred
- Clear and professional communication skills, including both oral and written
- Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds with multiple individual and systemic barriers to success
- Leadership skills and the capability of working alone with very little supervision
- Ability to act as a positive and supportive presence for program participants with a highly professional approach and a commitment to person-centered care
