Your impact at MUFG

The candidate contributes to the successful origination, structuring and execution of leveraged finance transactions, supporting revenue generation, client relationship development and portfolio management activities across MUFG’s private equity sponsor and corporate client franchise

Function positioning

Supporting senior team members in the origination, structuring, execution and portfolio management of leveraged finance transactions. The candidate works closely with Sponsor Coverage, Mid-Market Direct Lending, Leveraged Capital Markets and other product and coverage teams across the bank

As an Associate in MUFG’s Leverage Finance team in Germany, you will become part of a growing platform, offering the opportunity to work on complex and high-profile sponsor-backed transactions, while taking on meaningful responsibility, gaining broad exposure to private equity sponsors and senior stakeholders across an international banking group and contributing  to the continued growth of the business

The role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage leveraged loan and high-yield bond financing solutions for corporate and sponsor clients
  • Analyze sponsor strategies and borrower credit profiles to structure debt packages
  • Collaborate on structuring senior facilities, subordinated instruments, and hybrid securities that maximize leverage, covenant flexibility, and refinancing options
  • Manage due diligence across internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage pricing and covenant negotiations
  • Monitor documentation for leveraged finance transactions
  • Present internal deal memos for credit committee review
  • Liaise with syndicate desk and sales teams to support market execution
  • Manage transaction timelines and coordinate closing logistics

In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following:

  • Work experience:
    • Experience working with leveraged finance transactions or sponsor-backed clients
    • Exposure to structuring and executing debt financings
    • Understanding of credit analysis and capital structure optimization
    • Experience preparing and presenting internal deal memos for credit committee review
  • Functional skills
    • Proficient with leveraged loan and high-yield bond structuring
    • Comprehensive understanding of sponsor strategies, credit profiles, and covenant frameworks
    • Experience with due diligence and support transaction execution
    • Proficiency in financial modeling and credit analysis
  • Foundational skills
    • Communicates effectively
    • Identifies multiple paths to success using analytical and critical thinking as well as decision-making skills
    • Exercises sound judgement, prioritizes effectively, and strives for continuous improvement
