Purpose

This position will advance research efforts regarding the role of reactive iron minerals on abiotic transformation of halogenated pollutants in groundwater, the associated role of bacteria in promoting the formation of reactive iron minerals, and the potential implications of mass transfer limitations on these processes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading modeling efforts to simulate pollutant oxidation and reduction in low permeability groundwater sediments.

  • Responsible for directing laboratory experiments being performed by an MS student on pollutant oxidation and reduction processes in low permeability groundwater sediments.

  • Responsible for compiling quarterly progress reports and needed presentation for projects.

Required Qualifications

PhD in environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, or related field with expertise in pollutant fate, transport, and remediation, with 2 years of work experience beyond the PhD.  Experience developing mathematical models to simulate pollutant fate, transport, and remediation, and performing laboratory experiments to explore pollutant fate, transport, and remediation processes.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Salary Range

$83,334
