Job Description
- Conduct network infrastructure assessment and review at two sites; the National Center for Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture (NCCCWA) located in Leetown, WV and the Appalachian Fruit Research Station (AFRS) in Kearneysville, WV.
- Develop and provide a documented segmented architectural infrastructure design.
- Identify opportunities to optimize existing infrastructure (if possible) with the end goal of providing enhanced network infrastructure performance to USDA ARS end users.
- Base the network infrastructure design on the Agency’s standard data communications equipment and identify obsolete devices that should be replaced immediately.
- Categorize the findings into a document that can be utilized by the ARS location to contract technical assistance and or upgrade infrastructure that includes cabling and Cisco based data communications hardware.
Qualifications
10+ years experience in network administration or engineering. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Experience in all phases of the engineering life cycle including: requirements; architecture; design; implementation; testing; and operations and maintenance. Thorough knowledge of routers, switches, and firewalls. Able to assess infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions. Knowledge of relevant server-side tools and technologies. Experience with network monitoring and management using an automated solution. Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining servers and desktops in an enterprise organization. Extensive experience with security as it pertains to network architecture, desktops, laptops, servers, firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection systems (IDS). Solid customer service and communication skills are critical as well as the ability and willingness to communicate effectively and appropriately in an empathetic and understanding manner. Must be willing to travel locally for on-site visits. Must be a US Citizen.
