Overview:

Top European Bank with a strong and growing U.S. presence is seeking a skilled Executive Director with 20+ years of in credit risk within Corporate and Investment Banking environment. 

The Executive Director is expected to contribute to leading the internal execution and risk management process supported by Global Risk Management USA (GRM USA) members. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading and managing several industry verticals whose main purposes is transaction credit underwriting and execution, documentation negotiation and deal closing, and ongoing credit monitoring and portfolio management. This person will also assist in providing leadership management necessary to ensure that GRM USA has proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to efficiently grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operational excellence.

This role requires a deep understanding of financial markets, financial analysis, and risk assessment within a corporate lending context, spanning various sectors.

Knowledge in risk management with a focus on climate and sustainability (i.e. GARP SCR or CFA ESG Investing certified) is highly preferable, but not a requirement for the opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Quality control of credit underwriting to ensure market best practices are adopted and enforced across the group.

  • Oversight of the preparation of credit applications and direct management of a team of banking professionals in designated industry verticals.

  • Skilled understanding of credit agreements, lease transaction documentation, trade/structured finance documents, and ISDA agreements.

  • Ensure the appropriate processing of transaction-related requests, such as amendments and waivers to existing credit documentation.

  • Drive performance improvement by leading best practices in credit underwriting to ensure the highest quality of analysis.

  • Develop, implement and own policies and procedures and provide effective training to ensure the proper governance within the group.

  • Ensure compliance in a complex regulatory environment through effective operational controls and incorporating updates to regulatory controls into day-to-day operational processes.

  • Lead preparation and advocacy on behalf of BBVA’s Credit Quality Review and Internal Audit exams as well as all Fed exams.

  • Develop a strong working relationship with the front office Coverage and Product personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Team management experience in a credit risk capacity strongly preferred.

  • 20+ years of relevant experience in credit risk.

  • Strong knowledge of transactional documentation.

  • Strong level of understanding of US lending regulations and regulatory classification.

  • Expert level of credit risk skill, including the ability to work across complex structures and products.

  • Strong critical thinking skills to address complex problem solving.

  • Ability to create a strong network of relationships among peers, internal partners, external constituencies and decision makers to deliver end products.

  • Deep understanding of policies, procedures, compliance and approval process at a Corporate Bank

  • Strong communication and business writing skills.

  • CRE risk experience is a plus.
