The Role:
This position is a member of the Financial Reporting Accounting team, reporting to the Financial Reporting Lead. This position participates in the preparation of internal and external financial reports and assists with the monthly close process and ongoing compliance with internal controls around the financial reporting cycle. This position will also assist with the review of accounting systems and related financial reports used in financial reporting processes.
Day to Day:
- Participates in the preparation of the Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 11-K, Earnings Release, 8-K and other filings as required.
- Participates in the preparation of financial statement footnotes for the Forms 10-Q and 10-K, including taking ownership of the completeness and accuracy of the sections assigned.
- Maintains, and develops as necessary, a standardized set of accounting work papers to provide appropriate support and documentation for journal entries, other accounting transactions and balances, and external reporting disclosures.
- Assists in the preparation of the financial statements for our defined benefit pension plan.
- Assists in the preparation of FERC Form 2 and other regulatory filings.
- Completes assigned balance sheet account fluctuations and internal control procedures to ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act timely.
- Supports compliance with iXBRL tagging requirements for SEC filings.
- Collaborates with General Accounting team members to develop and maintain accounting system hierarchies and management reports.
- Collaborates with the Investor Relations team on press releases, presentations and ESG reporting.
- Identifies opportunities to increase efficiency and automation of accounting functions and follows through with implementation.
- Assists in the analysis and implementation of new accounting pronouncements and may perform technical accounting research as required.
- Assists in the preparation and review of monthly internal financial statements and other financial reports.
- Provides support for both internal and external auditors.
- Supports Company and team goals by assisting internal customers, analyzing financial data, preparing ad hoc reports, and other projects as required.
- Supports Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
Come on your first day with:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA certificate preferred.
- Minimum three years of applied accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and SEC rules. Knowledge of iXBRL tagging requirements preferred.
- Experience with large ERP system (SAP) and Workiva is highly desirable.
- Must combine attention to detail with the ability to envision the big picture.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to think logically and present decisions based on relevant
- information; understanding impacts of decisions made.
- Requires outstanding ethical standards and values consistent with those of the company.
- Proven ability to function in a team environment, provide information and training to users while treating them with respect and dignity.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to facilitate group meetings and presentations.
- Strong writing skills including process documentation and report generation.
