KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Membership to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Director of Membership is responsible for leading regular and ongoing membership efforts to provide high touch, scalable, and personalized communication to: 1) KUOW audiences at large through automated email journeys, campaign messages, case management, and membership benefits, and  2) specialized segments such as new donors, mid-level donors ($1,000-$9,999 in annual giving), Sound Legacy Circle members, CARS donors (KUOW’s vehicle donation program), Employee Giving and Matching participants.

The Director of Membership uses data-driven approaches to identify audience segmentation, goals, metrics, customer service, and engagement strategies that deliver donor revenue to KUOW. This role supplements and expands the current Membership Team by providing an audience-focused strategy that delivers incremental revenue, retention, and stewardship gains on a scale that provides real impact to KUOW’s mission. This role is suitable/eligible for hybrid/Occasional Telework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management – 35%
    • Lead and execute an integrated annual campaign strategy to raise $14M in revenue from 47,000+ donors.
    • Oversee and improve customer service experience and KPIs.
    • Manage and report on donor pipeline progression through structured development strategies.
    • Guide membership team in developing seasonal and ongoing campaigns.
  • Audience Segmentation Management – 30%
    • Working across KUOW, identify and deliver on performance metrics for KUOW audience segments and opportunities.
    • Evaluate and manage email donor journeys to build engagement and impact.
    • Assess KPIs that move donors into mid-level and major giving portfolios and prospects for planned giving.
  • Impact Stewardship at Scale – 20%
    • Emphasize impact over transactions in donor stewardship campaigns. Strengthen donor relationships with KUOW’s mission and services.
    • Identify stewardship opportunities and scale and ways to increase donor data collection and personalization.
  • Data Efficiency and working with external Vendor Relationships – 10%
    • Monitor and recommend opportunities for enhanced engagement by engaging with donor and prospect data.
    • Identify donor relationships that provide strategic donor engagement, such as call centers and printing and mailing services.
  • Other duties as assigned – 5%
  • This position manages 3 employees and a work study student.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in campaign strategy, fundraising, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Proven history of managing multi-channel fundraising or revenue-generating campaigns, with experience in project management, content development for diverse platforms, data-driven strategic thinking, and vendor relationship management.
  • Proven history of directly leading and successfully managing a team of two or more direct reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written, phone, and in-person).
  • Proven ability to work professionally, collegially and effectively with donors or other constituents, colleagues and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with public radio programming.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising databases, preferably Salesforce, and email marketing platforms, preferably Marketing Cloud.

Working Conditions

  • Duties may occasionally require evening and weekend work when necessary to meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to travel when necessary to attend station events.
  • Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
  • Position is suitable/eligible for Hybrid/Occasional Telework.
  • Ability to lift /move 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for event setup and tear down. During Events (from setup to tear down) or on Event days
