About the role

Patrols hospital property, screens visitors and performs other activities relating to ensuring the safety and security of hospital property and personnel. Assists in managing daily operations of the security department. Reports to appropriate supervisor.

Job Function:

  1. Supervises employees directly including selection, training, performance appraisal and work allocation. Assigns work to subordinate staff, provides direction and reviews all work as necessary. Conducts investigations. Coordinates video monitoring, system set ups, and proper use of video equipment. Monitors special ground floor patrol areas. Secures cash collection and transfer operations. Retrieves and organizes appropriate data from records and files. Monitors variance against budget. Responds to calls from subordinates to take charge of protective measures during emergencies. Makes periodic tours about buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows and gates to see that they are properly secured. Investigates disturbances and in the event of an emergency, takes charge of policing to maintain order, safety and to protect property. Follows applicable local, state and federal security regulations and restrictions. Cooperates with external law enforcement agencies to investigate irregularities in security. Coordinates the hospital and office parking facilities and regulations. Studies and makes recommendations on special security and staffing problems as required.
  2. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty. Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Transferring, repositioning patients. Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient care functions. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties. Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment. Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty maybe irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent and graduate of recognized security school or law enforcement program preferred.

Work Experience:

Experience in law enforcement and related security experience.

Skills Abilities:

Skills needed include ability to use independent judgment, to work under stressful situations and in in climate weather, and to maintain records. Customer relations and good management skills, diplomacy, initiative, ingenuity, memory for details, and organizational skills.

License & Cert:

Current Mississippi driver's license with acceptable driving record.
